Joe Anderson came face-to-face with violence in 1993, when a mass shooting tore through his law firm, Pettit & Martin. Nine lives were lost in that shooting, and several others suffered injuries. Desperate to make sense of the tragedy he survived, Joe pushed through his shock and disbelief before landing upon a crucial question, “Why?” While he never understood the shooter’s motivation, he did decide that their lack of effective self-defence items opened the door for the massacre. In 2016, Joe met Steve Mangold. Steve was a card carrying NRA member whose conservative politics directly opposed Joe’s viewpoints, the two found harmony in forming Reflex Protect. Steve had developed a unique spray head device, and Joe had the necessary vision to utilize his design to create a non-lethal defensive weapon. With the power Reflex Protect puts in the hands of ordinary citizens, people are empowered to prevent and deter violent crimes like mass shootings with effective, non-lethal means.
