Peter Asher – 3 Time Grammy Winner and Author of The Beatles from A to Zed: An Alphabetical Mystery Tour
Peter Asher began his music career in the early ‘60s in London as half of a pop vocal duo he modestly describes as “Beatles substitutes.” Today, his voice is known to fans of The Beatles Channel on Sirius XM, where he hosts a weekly show, “From Me to You.” He is a Grammy Award-winning record producer, but owes the launch of his own career to Paul McCartney. In the early 1960’s, Paul, then in his twenties, moved into the guest bedroom of the Asher family’s town house at 57 Wimpole Street. Peter’s duo, Peter and Gordon, released a McCarthy single, “A World Without Love.” It went to No. 1 in the UK, and then in the US. In 1968, Peter became head of A&R for the Beatles’ Apple Records. Taking a chance on a gentle American singer-songwriter, he signed the label’s first non-British artist and produced James Taylor’s debut album. In 1977. Peter won his first Grammy Award for Producer of the Year for JT. He also won a Grammy in 1989 for producing a Linda Ronstadt album, Simple Dreams. He has produced albums for Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Cher, 10,000 Maniacs, Neil Diamond, and many others. In 2002, he won his third Producer of the Year Grammy for his work on a live comedy album for Robin Williams.
