Bill Schneider is Professor of Public Policy and Public and International Affairs at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. He was CNN’s senior political analyst from 1990 to 2009 and played an integral part in America Votes 2008 coverage, including breaking down polls, offering historical perspective, and traveling the country on CNN’s Election Express to gauge voter sentiments. He has been labeled the nation’s electionmeister by The Washington Times and the Aristotle of American politics by The Boston Globe. Schneider has been named one of the 50 most influential Washington journalists by Washingtonian Magazine. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Julian P. Kanter Award for Excellence in Television, a special award for his extensive coverage and keen insight of the 2008 United States presidential elections from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, and the Centennial Medal for contributions to society from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. Professor Schneider has also written extensively on politics and public opinion. He is the author of Standoff: How America Became Ungovernable, where he takes his readers inside the voting booth to show how Americans vote and why their votes sometimes seem to make no practical sense.
