Michael J. Daugherty – Author of The Devil Inside the Beltway

Michael Daugherty

Michael Daugherty

Michael J. Daugherty is the President of LabMD, an Atlanta-based clinical and anatomic medical laboratory as well as CEO of AnyLabTestNow in Virginia. He has spent most of the last decade defending his company against charges that it had deficient cyber-security practices. In doing so, he has become the only litigant to challenge the basic authority that underlies more than 200 enforcement actions relating to cyber-security and online privacy that the FTC has brought over the past 15 years. Mike recorded the early years of his entering and fighting Washington, DC in his book, The Devil Inside the Beltway: The Shocking Expose of the US Government’s Surveillance and Overreach Into Cybersecurity, Medicine and Small Business, a chilling and personal story that reveals, in detail, how the Federal Trade Commission repeatedly bungled a critically important cybersecurity investigation and betrayed the American public. Stephanie Carruthers – Global Social Engineering Expert, IBM X-Force Red and Founder of Snowfensive LLC

Stephanie Carruthers

Stephanie Carruthers

Stephanie Carruthers, also known by her hacker alias “Snow”, specializes in social engineering; thinking like a criminal in order to hack the human psyche, creating ruses to lure them into divulging sensitive information or taking an action. After winning a black badge at DEF CON 22 for the Social Engineering Capture The Flag, Stephanie started Snowfensive in 2014, a small boutique consultancy that provides social engineering-focused services such as phishing, vishing, physical security assessments, penetration testing and red team exercises. Stephanie mainly hacks humans in order to help businesses find and fix their security holes, as part of IBM’s X-Force Red. Companies hire X-Force Red to break into their networks in order to find the security flaws that exist in their technology, processes, and staff awareness. For Snow, this means gathering information that has been overshared on the web that can help the team hack a company’s computer network; such as passwords on sticky notes in the background of a YouTube video, photos of security badges with employee info displayed or laptop screens showing the types of software a company uses.
